Give to Your Community:

Their are many ways you can give to your community.

Most important is to shop local and visit the non-franchise businesses.

How about visiting that local produce market instead of going to the big company supermarket.

Unfortunately, if you don't shop 'smart' you'll probably spend more than you would at Walmart, or other supermarkets that offer 'lose-leaders'. Sure some companies offer Roma Tomatoes for $.99 a pound, but their betting that your going to buy more than just the Roma Tomatoes.

Your local small business tries to offer you a far value on ALL of your purchases, while still being able to pay employess, the government taxes, and trying to cover their own expenses.

While we'd love to contribute to the many worthy organizations out there, we select a few to work with, some of which are listed.

Clothes for Kids:

We raffled off a great gift basket from Chatterbox Gifts. We raised several hundred dollars. and collected many bags of clothes for donation. While we really expected to raise more money, Clothes for Kids was thrilled with the donation. Because of the economy, they've seen more need, and less donation, so every little bit helps.

Our last raffle was in November-December, and we will be doing another one this summer, and again in winter. It's an organization we believe in, and hope that we can help out.

Silver Lake Beautification:

While we're usually closed on Sunday's, we opened up to play host and 'base camp' for the Silver Lake Beautification project.

Everyone participating really lucked out on the weather, it didn't start raining until after everyone had completed their projects. A lot of garbage was collected, weeding and planting was done. The donated planters were filled with dirt, planted, and landscape fabric and beauty bark were added to keep the weeds at bay.

Article from the Everett Herald:

Thank to volunteers who recently pitched in to make Silver Lake in Everett more beautiful.

“With the help of 75 volunteer neighbors, friends and family from as far as Bitter Lake, Everett’s Silver Lake Action Committee added some spring color along 19th Ave. SE in the Silver Lake area with a grant from Everett’s Office of Neighborhoods,” says David Chrisman, neighborhood chairman. “Folks formed teams to add hardy plants to six planters, two corridor sign beds and for corner flower beds.

They beat a rainstorm, he says.

The event was staged at the Solid Rock Coffee cafe which opened on a Sunday when they would otherwise be closed. Silver Lake Elementary School students made a big poster to celebrate “Flower Day.” Members of Kiwanis pitched in and plant donations were contributed from Ace Hardware and Lowes.

Cedar Grove Compost hauled 6 yards of soil free for the neighborhood project.

“It’s nice to see plans come to fruition after several months of preparation,” Chrisman says.

Young Life:

We play host for the local Young Life events. Whether they're having a small meeting, or a group of several chapters, they get free run of the place.

At night, Solid Rock Coffee takes on a 'jazz lounge' feel, with the warm paint colors, and the red pendant lights.

Whether it's an art show (which we've done), or a party, or a business meeting, we can fit your needs.
